Hey guys I mentioned a while back that my rear main was leaking
again and I was worried about chrome flaking into my oil.
Someone said to check the magnetic drain plug (which mine isn't)
but will chrome flakes stick to magnets? I took off the oilpan
and found some bits of crud but I don't think any of it is
chrome. It looks like mostly the residue from the ex-chain
tensioner and a few tiny pieces of something that looks kind of
like cat litter. Little tiny pieces of crumbly chalky stuff. I
ran a magnet through the pan and the oil and came up with no
metal at all so I'm guessing the leak is something else, maybe
even the gasket around the oil pan (hoping, but doubtful).
