Greg F

Greg B's train of thought is logical. Follow the the line of mechanical interaction.

Lever
cable
pivot and pivot arm
throw out bearing.
push rod.

clutch
plates
flywheel

When you pull the cable does the pivot arm move ?
Is the adjustment screw in the pivot arm?

Hi Greg,

Random questions here (some of which I'm sure you've already answered).
No need to answer them, just hopefully something will ring a bell for
you???

1. Could it be that the push rod is too short?
2. How were the splines on the clutch input hub?
3. How were the splines on the flywheel?
4. Is the intermediate plate bent?
5. As long as the transmission and engine mate properly, I don't suppose
there is anything wrong with the trans spacer being longer on one side
than the other...perhaps it just worked out of the aluminum case?
6. While the trans was out, did you check that the push rod moved
smoothly? that the throw out bearings were operating properly (not
stuck)?
7. You did remember to put the little puck for the push rod back in the
pressure plate?
8. Could it be that the clutch springs are not lined up properly -
creating lateral forces on the intermediate plate?
9. Perhaps the clutch cable itself is stretching instead of pulling?

That's enough questions so early in the morning. Sorry to hear of your
trouble, though. It is always frustrating to remove the transmission
again.

I just replaced the flywheel and clutch on a 74 Eldo and put it back
together. The clutch wouldn't release, so I took off the tranny and
confirmed everythign was installed correctly. It was. Now it's back
together and still won't release. I've tried all the adjsutments, etc.
The other wierd thing was theat the tranny spacer on the left side was
shorter than on the right.
