Hi guys
This is a 73 Eldo that I have been working on since the winter. Had
the engine out replace all seals timming chain & tensioner lots of
other work and upgrades. After first getting the eldo on the road,
eldo went like hell & sounded good but started pumping oil out
breather tube. Had 165 psi and 140 psi. Pulled 140 side off, broken
top compression ring, it had been in there for a while no damage to
chrome bore but piston ring slot looked enlarged a bit. So I put a
used chrome bore cylinder set on. Had 165 psi both sides now. No more
oil comming out the breather allright!!
It lasted two weeks and started burning oil. So pulled it off and
found pits on chrome bore just starting to appear, so i figure no use
putting new rings in with chrome starting to go! Shit!!!
So reinstalled original piston and cylinder set with new rings { like
I should of in the first place} and good compression and no oil out
the breather, allright !!
Now I have a wierd noise that sounds like a bad or loose valve
lifter. You cannot hear it when excelerating or decompressing , but
steady running at 35 mph and up you can hear it. I run 0.008 inch
clearance exhaust and intake valves , so valves are noisey.
I reset the valve clearances to 0.002 inch and same noise at the same
times.
I thought the noise was there with the other top end and just needed
to adjust the valves but i cannot be shure of that
Do you think I screwed up the rod bushing or could the extra piston
slot gap make this noise ?? Could their be something wrong with the
cam and lifters ??
Any advice would be much appreciated !!
Ed
