I did not loose chrome offthe walls of the last cylinder set but there was some fine pit marks the size of a pen tip and i think the set was well worn out and started to burn oil under full power. It had been sitting for four years. Any how the original cylinders that are on now have never lost chrome yet, I have had rocker shafts out and bushings looked ok. Maybe the rod bushing is worn from taking the piston pin in and out two times ? What do you think? I know some of the guys are thinking just buck up and go with the newer cylinders but the right side works perfect for now so thats why i have spent somuch time trying to get the other side going .Thanks for your help MattFrom: Matthew Moore <moore-@cablespeed.com>Reply-To: Loopfram-@topica.comTo: Loopfram-@topica.comSubject: Re: Mystery engine

Easy to check, make sure the cyl is at TDC,then back off adjusters, then remove the bolt and spindle, look inside thebores of the rockers. I had little "chewed" marks that ran from the oilsupply hole and down the bores a short
distance. I know for a fact that I had a lot of chrome flakes in my lubricationsystem because ym big-end rod bearings were really chewed up, the sludgetrap was FULL of it, and the main bearings had a tiny bit of embeddedmaterial. One rod journal of the crank looked a little "wavy" but miked outto within normal specs when I cleaned it up (thankfully!).I wonder if you could have put the rocker assemblies in with springs onwrong side?I think if the "new" cyl you used lost chrome you had better pull the rodends at least and look for bright, shiny flakes embedded in the bearingmaterial.MattYour free subscription is supported by today's sponsor:-------------------------------------------------------------------Ben & Jerry's®or Hagen-Dazs®?Take our Nationwide Ice Cream Survey today!
