Hi Tom,

To replace the guides and recut the valve seats properly requires
specialized machinery/tools and a bit of know how. If you can find a
good shop in your area to do the work, it will save you the time and $$
of shipping. Look in the Yellow Pages or ask around at the local cycle
shops, check out a few and go with the one that gives you the best
"vibe". Dave O. used a shop in the Frederick, MD area (can't remember
the name - Dave?) with good results. I have a childhood friend that
works for a racing engine builder in Boonsboro do all of my machine
work. A lot of the time automotive machinists are happy to just have
something a bit different to work on!

But Mark E. could use the $$ also, and having him do the work will
eliminate the worry factor.

Guzziology has a few good tips regarding valves, guides and their
replacement.

This is all new territory for me, but I'm surmising I can
probably install the cylinders/pistons myself, but should
probably have the heads done (new valves, guides, etc.?)
by a qualified machinist that knows loopframes. I live in
Southern MD (western shore). Does anyone have a
recommendation that's close by, or maybe I should just
ship them out to Mark E., or is this work I can do myself?

I'm sure its not a straight answer, but opinions welcome.

Thanks, -tom
