The build date on my 72 Eldo also shows it as MAJ ?

I don't speak or write Italian, but I went to
http://www.wordreference.comand I got a translation of "Maggio" for May.
I have seen "Maj" on the headstock plates before, so it's not a one time
spelling mistake. I do believe that the 3 letter month abbreviation is
something other than English.

Puo is May in Italian. I'm assuming MAJ is just their bad spelling
mistake for May.

It may very well be, as you say, a '73 model. On the VIN plate-in the box

above the year is "MAJ".
I wonder if Guido made a typo and it should have been "MAY" As I stated,
it
is titled as a "74 and doesn't seem worth the fight to correct that.
