Hail Guzzizti,
This isn't Loop related, but I know that the Loop List rules...I recently installed a Dyna III ignition on my '75 850 T. Prior to installation, it was intermittently missing on one cylinder. I checked the coils and one looked a little toasted with pitting, a fried post, and cinders in the cap. I replaced that coil and it seemed to run well for a short time until it started missing again. I replaced both coils (both were 30 yrs old), plugs, plug wires and caps. I also installed the electronic ignition per the instructions.
My friend who is a mechanic and has restored several bikes helped me. The old girl ran well with the new set up but needed to have the advance set. My friend worked on it for a long time with a timing light and thought he had the timing set right. we used the Guzzi Workshop manual for the 850t. It still didn't advance correctly, so he set it by feel and sound. We also adjusted the carbs, pulled the slides and set the carb clips on the notches indicated in the manual with an electronic equalizer.
It idled well, but , died upon take off, so he advanced the timing slightly and adjusted the carb idle screws. All of this took all day on a really hot muggy DC day. I had the feeling that he may not have been seeing the timing marks correctly (There are 4). Anyway, the 850t ran better than it ever has before for about for 2 days. I drove it about 170 miles at speeds up to 70-80 Mph. Accelleration was better than ever. I drove it for hours for the sheer fun of it.After riding it for a couple hours, it started to miss again. Then it seemed o.k., then I stopped to talk to a guy with the Goose at idle and the bike died on me. It had gas, and started but ran rough and seemed like it wanted to stall. Any information or diagnosis the list can give is appreciated.
