It said high detergent oils should be used for most bikes, but low

Anyone know anything about this?

I've heared this often. The detergent additives keep particulates in
suspension so that the filter can do its job and take them out. Without
a filter, you are far better off having these particles settle out and
rest safely as sludge in the bottom of the sump. FWIW, I have a small
Onan generator in my van motorhome. Holds one quart of oil and no
filter. Onan publishes the same advice. Generally, single viscosity
oils do not have such additives while multi-viscosity oils do. Still, I
always ran 20-50 in my loop and the motor was still strong when I sold
it at 125K.
