I used the POR-15 kit and liked it also. They make a paint stripper
that spays on. It worked well on the stuff I stripped.

The POR-15 sealer is a good one, I've used it on several tanks with
good results. The key is preparation, and the directions are very good,
just follow them and don't short cut.
The two chemicals they use for prep are MEK (methyl ethyl ketone)
and Phosphoric acid. The phos neutralizes rust and etches the metal
while the MEK is kind of a thinner for the sealer and helps to absorb
and flush out the water that you rinse the acid out with and then
evaporates quickly and preps the tank for the sealer. Both chemicals
will screw up your paint, but it is possible to be really careful and
save your paint job. Since you plan on painting down the road, it's not
as critical as sealing it with a new paint job.
If it's not leaking now, put inline filters in the gas lines if
the tank looks rusty, get it running and ride the heck out of it. Then
you can strip and seal before the final paint job.
Sandblasting may lift some of the chrome on the tank. If you're
going to have the tank chrome plated, just hand it to your plater and
the paint will come off in his stripping process. Of course, this will
screw up your sealer, so you might want to enter that into your equation

to seal before painting. The sequence I would suggest is chrome plate,
then seal, then paint. I have some pics of tank paint and striping here

I've used something called Aircraft paint stripper from NAPA that
comes in an aerosol spray can basically because it's easier to evenly
apply than trying to put stripper on with a brush. I like to wrap it
with saran wrap so it doesn't evaporate as quickly and works longer, and

there's just something about wrapping a stripper with saran wrap that
appeals to me. If you're going to try to save the existing chrome
panels, the stripper may blush the chrome, so you'll have to exercise
care.

 Hello All,

I got the kit but did not used it yet because of some questions;

1) Can anyone who used it, please give additional uselful tips???

2) Also, as I plan to first bring my Ambo to driving condition, I was
wondering if applying the kit first would create any problems later on,

 when I'll decide to repaint the tank professionally ???
My concerns are particulrly with the pre-paint preparation; if I use
the
 kit first, for example, I do not think I will let the tank be oven
baked
 to remove the old paint.... Sand blasting will probably put too many
pits and too aggressive... So my MAIN QUESTION: Is there another
process for paint prep that will not hurt the sealing kit, something
like a strong paint stripper solution or other proccess ??? Any
recommendations & tips welcomed...
