Subject: Strange noise from clutch

It was hot here in Ca yesterday so I rode the Ambo over to see my
dad. On the way home at a stoplight I noticed a strange noise coming from
down in the engine. Sort of sounded like the generator belt was slapping at
its cover. It wasn't a steady consistant noise but an intermitant clanging
kind of noise. It seemed to go away while riding and only appeared when
stopped with the clutch pulled in. Maybe my imagination but the clutch
seemed easier to pull in at this point. My thoughts at the moment were to
just get home as I promised my wife to do something. I got home and put the
bike away without looking or listening anymore to it.
If it were my car I would suspect the throw-out bearing was going out.
Anyone with any thoughts on this before I go where I really did not want to
go before winter and that is pulling the transmission?
