My name is Bob and I have a 1969 V7, Ambassador. It is a 750cc. I =
bought it last year from a dealer and it never ran correctly. I always =
had problems with the starboard cylinder going dead. I tried changing =
spark plugs but that did not work. Finally pulled engine apart recently =
and found that the valves needed grinding and lapping so I did that. =
Also found that the valve guides were OK. Also, chrome was peeling off =
cylinders so I ordered a Nikasil kit from Italy and I am in the process =
of installing this kit. I hope once I do this the bike will run =
correctly. I will keep you informed if you like. Best of luck on your =

Hi,

first I need to say hallo on this list. I moved over from the MGCL =
after they had some digest mode troubles and I assume I got lost.

I was with them 6 years already. Time to experience something new.

My V7 Special (=3DAmbo) caused me a lot of headache early last year =
with a broken gear box cush spring and in autumn I had a cracked cam =
gear at highway speed. Luckily, just one valve was bent, but =
nevertheless troublesome to experience both within short period of time.

This year I committed myself to a pre-season check on the u-joint of =
the Mille GT. Started Saturday by pushing the rubber hose away and =
spotting what's the inside look like. Turned out to be not tidy and so =
I removed swing arm and joint.=20

Joint was ok, and so I proceeded to the joint support bearing by =
inspecting it with my fingers. He, what's this inner ring surface? And =
it does not turn smoothly. Further examination and disassembly showed, =
that the inner ring is broken FOUR times! Guess I was lucky to find this =
prior to an excessive damage.=20

But even the pinion bearing had excessive play (axial .26mm) and the =
pinion tooth surfaces are awesome. I intend to fix the play and continue =
with the pinion, but check it e.g. with each new tire.

So, why always me? It keeps me really busy to keep both Guzzis alive =
and this is getting boring. A minor fix every now and then would be ok, =
but the working hours and money I spent within a year is really on the =
limit by now!=20
