Andy,

Sounds kinda strange that a new belt would go on you like that, unless
something is mis-aligned. I've been running a similar Gates automotive
type belt on mine and it seems to be doing fine. I did unintentionally
grind a bit of rubber off the belt initially because the generator was
not squarely in the bracket. Usually the first clue of a problem is a
lot of rubber dust under the front cover.
