Mike,

I know of at least two instances of original Guzzi cam gears breaking
locally, in one of those cases it was a V7 Sport, the other was an
Ambassador or Eldorado, I don't remember which. But I do remember that the
loop frame instance involved a reassembled motor that potentially had gears
from another motor in it. I thought that detail was significant because
several years ago I was told that Guzzi actually matched gear sets to
crankcases during assembly, much the same as the pistons are matched "A",
"B" or "C" to the cylinders. Supposedly the variations in the gears were
matched to the variations of crank and camshaft centers. I haven't taken
the time to dig for anything to support that claim, but it's food for
thought. Especially if you're fitting gears from one engine into another,
as it sounds like you may be doing. If you've got the luxury of several old
gear sets to choose from you might want to mount them up and look for
differences in fit.

Yesterday I decided to take a little trip on my Eldo, got about 10 miles
down the road and all hell broke loose...engine noise and then it
died...pulled off the road...engine turned over but make a mechanical
sound.
I just pulled the front cover off...the cam gear is busted....anybody else
had this happen? JB, I know you had a gear bust but it wasn't cam gear
was
 it?
I'm just glad it didn't happen last Saturday on my 400 mile ride...
