Subject: fork tube threads

it looks like the threads on the inside of my fork tubes
are well and truly toast. looks like the caps were
cross-threaded and a bunch of material was shaved off.
is there any way to repair these? is it worth trying to
repair or am I better off springing for a new set?
this is for a drum-brake ambo.
