The battery tender is a good idea. I put mine on mine on a couple times a
week. Acually I got a Yuasa charger off ebay(The Tuner Guy)new in the box.
After hooking up the easy connect/disconnect to the battery, I don't even
have to remove the side covers to plug it in.
The charger is aprox. 4"L X 3"W X 4"H. Plugs directly into an outlet. Came
with the clips as well as the connect/disconnect. Same thing as the battery
tender. Hook it up and forget about it.
Very happy with it. Couldn't beat the price either.

Hi Jason,

Here's a few things you might consider about the garden tractor batteries.

1) get the highest CCA rating you can find - in the local Advance Auto they
have a "maintanence-free" one with 365 CCA for under $30. If your starter is
in optimum condition, this should be more than enough, especially with a
Bosch starter.
2) isolate the battery as best you can from vibration. Vibration kills a lot
of garden batteries. A firm foam rubber pad under it will help here.

3) keep it charged and filled (if necessary). I connect my Battery Tender
after every ride (that ends at home) and fill when needed with distilled
water.

So far, (knocking on wood) this battery has lasted 4 years with little sign
of deterioration. The battery I'm using is only 220 CCA and cranks over my
tired old '69 Ambo with Marelli starter okay. The brand is "Rocket" made in
Taiwan, purchased from my parts supplier for lawn and garden equipment
(screw on caps and a vent hose was the attraction). So if I can get this
much and probably quite a bit more life out of an "el cheapo" battery with
minimal care, you probably can too. Cheers,

Charlie.

Does anyone have a battery recommendation. I have been using $25 riding
lawn mower batteries for years. However, they do not seem to last long or
have quite enough cranking power.
