I just came home from a weekend spent in Ohio with family. On my return, I
picked up the '72 Eldo that a fellow lister had mentioned seeing an ad for in
the Columbus paper.
It needs a front fender and rear (front) fender stay, a front rim, and some
reworking of the battery covers. Someone (idiot) cut the tops off of the
battery covers then riveted some aluminum onto then to make clearance for the
terminals of an ill-fitted car type battery. You'd love the front turn
signals; bolted to holes drilled in the headlight ears, rear running lights
from a tractor!! The crankcase vent has been puttied over so much it felt
like playdo. Obviously, I need a new one. This bike was brought over from
Italy by the original owner when he was in the military in the early
seventies. It ran strong, only has 12,xxx miles on it. I'm toying with the
idea of swapping out the front end in it's entirety for a late model (Triumph
Thunderbird Sport edition) spoked wheel dual disc setup, or a MG 850T3 unit.

Question: On each of the valve covers in the middle is a hex head bolt. I
pulled a cover off while at the seller's house to satisfy my curiosity. I'm
still confused by these bolts, as they have an assortment of washers then a
nut on the inside of the cover. What is the function, and is this oem?
However, I'm pleased to now own an Eldo. I didn't realize the amount of
subtle differences between it and the '70 & '71 Ambos in my garage.
