Keith:
I'm with Cookie, any of the sealing stuff makes it a pain to clean up
the next time you take it off, and risk damaging the mating surfaces
when trying to scrape them clean . If anything I use blue Hylomar, makes
a good seal, stays flexible and cleans up easily. If it's good enough
for Rolls-Royce, it's good enough for me.
That said, to answer your question, if you want to use something on
the the gasket, put the goop on your fingers and do both sides at once.
Stick it ot the pan and button it up.

i never use any sealing gloop to seal sump pan. i grease the gasket in the
hope it will come off easier next time & to stick it in place.

Anyways, question is, do I need to apply any
cement or goop to either the pan or engine casting with this oil pan
gasket or just use it as it is without anything?

Thanx.
