Rich:
The forks are pretty simple, you're on the right track with Steve's tools. One place you might run into trouble is getting the top triple clamp off; a gear puller and a little bit of heat and patience will work. Don't forget to loosen the lower tree first.
When you get to the part about removing the snap ring that holds the seals in, be aware that there's a little hole in the side of the fork lower where the chrome cover threads on, and you can poke at the ring from the side with an awl or something similar to get it out rather than chase it around and pick at it for a day like I did the first time.
You might consider painting or rubbing out the covers and the lowers while you have everything off and in your hands. Check your steering head bearings now that the forks are off, you're 95 percent of the way there already if they need replacing.
Use anti-seize when putting the chrome covers back on, get some new aluminum washers for the drain plugs, put a dab of lube on your brake cam while it's handy, be kind to animals, brush between meals.

Do any of you have any advice or even better a write-up for the fork
seal replacement? I read the sections in Guzziology and the Premier
manual and the procedure doesn't look at all pretty. (I'm getting the
tools for the fork work made by Stephen B.)
