Greg,
I do not remove the swing arm. I just take some card board between the engine
and the frame to
protect the paint on the frame, then when the engine bolts are out and exhaust
is disconnected, I
move the engine forward on the jack until it is just about crammed into the
frame tube (this is why
I use cardboard or something to protect the frame) and when the engine is
forward enough to get
the u-joint to disconnect, I stop moving it forward and raise the transmission
up, undo the engine
to transmission bolts and pull the transmission back and out.

This weekend I had to replace a rear main bearing on the 4LS

 8) Remove upper shock-mount bolt and pull shocks free from the upper
mount
9) Undo the swingarm spindles and front clamp on u-joint boot and pull
swingarm back about 1/2 inch
