I've noticed that my gas cap no longer seals well....when the bike is
standing still....for a long time.....

This winter I replaced the old, dried out gas cap seal with a new seal
I cut out of a sheet of Viton. The gas tank was full to slightly above
the cylinder that extends down in the the tank from the filler area.
Then I noticed, while working in the garage, that the tank was wet with
a film of gasoline. The level of the gas was nowhere near the top of
the filler cap. I eventually siphoned off enough gas to lower it below
the cylinder inside the tank which seem to stop this. I think that
capillary action is causing the gas to go up the sides of the cylinder
and then up and over the filler lip. But I would have thought that my
new seal would stop this.

Anyone else seen this phenomena ?
