Poor connections = excessive heat. Loose prongs, corroded wires and if any
wire has been changed it may be too small of a gauge. The plastic is not the
problem because a properly operating electrical system will generate a minimal
amount of heat or none at all. Copper turns green as it decays, green is bad.
When you replace wire, bigger is always better. 15a. needs at least # 14 20a.
needs at least # 10 and if you replace any switches make sure they are rated
for (dc) direct current. Dc arcs are much greater than (Ac), alternating
current. Another thing to look for is too big of a fuse on a faulty circuit.
