Subject: (MGCL) Need to ID an older Model

Hello, I am new to this list and I have inherited a Moto Guzzi Motorcycle.
The owner passed away 2 years ago and now the parts are rusted; brackets,
linkage, nuts, bolts, screws. He had been using "Never Dull" to keep the
metal bright, but Never Dull cannot restore those pieces now.

Before I start any restoration and before I purchase any replacement
parts,
I need to identify the model and I was hoping there was someone on the
list
that could help. The title calls it an "LAPD". The property tag on the
front
of the Steering Head says "FEB 1970" and there is a 5 digit number for the
frame and engine.

It is white in color and does look like an LAPD Police Motorcycle. I think
it may be a V7 700, V7 Special, or a V7 Ambassador. Other than a "Moto
Guzzi" decal on the gas tank, there are no other printed clues as to the
model. I know the bore would be larger for the V750 over the V700, but I
was
hoping not to go to that extent for identification (at least not right
away). Must do some homework first, right?

Is there another means to make a positive identification?

Thanks,
Bruce Daniels
