Subject: bore kit question

My father had a 1000cc nikasil kit and his bike seems to be running
lean,(pipes bluing and slight rattle under load) I told him to check his
timing but has anyone ever had to step up a jet size or two or switch to
a 30mm carb after installing a bore kit. I have one on one of my loops
and am running the stock carbs and never had a problem. I dont know if
me being at sea level in Fla and him being in the blue ridge mountians
has any bearing.
