Ken,

I just ordered new bolts but not new nuts and I can order them later. I do not plan on taking the engine apart at this time. This bike is my commuter which means it gets mostly ridden in Manhattan and almost never on the freeway. In fact the last time I was on the open rode with this bike was when I took a ride with Washburn about three years ago or so. Anyway, the crank looks fine with no score marks that I can see or feel.

Thanks,
Tom

is there anything else I need to look for? The crank is not scored.

At the price of con rod nuts & bolts its very tempting to reuse but
conventional wisdom says replace them. They are a highly stressed part & you don't
want one coming apart at the wrong time. I have seen one example of a rod bolt
failure on a Guzzi, the big end of the rod came through the case & the result
was you could change the oil filter without dropping the sump. As far as what
else to look for, it depends on how far you plan on taking the motor down to
replace the shells, if your taking the crank out I would clean the sludge trap
while in there. The crank from my SP is on the work bench now, I was amazed how
much stuff was in the sludge trap.
