Greg,
I've done it a few times with limited success. If you have the
time I would recommend that you make a tool to help. What I think would
work nicely is if you took a piece of plywood & cut a circular hole in
it big enough that the speedo just passes through, and place the speedo
inside the hole prior to using a screwdriver to bend up the lip on the
bezel. This tool will help stabilize your instrument while you're prying
away on it, and it will keep the bending right where you need it while
preserving the original shape of the bezel. I've never tried a "tool"
like this but I think it would help. For prying tools I'd suggest a
medium-large flat-bladed screwdriver: place the point flat against the
back flange of the instrument can and twist the handle so that one end
of the point bears up against the lip of the bezel & the other end of
the point bears up against the can. Work your way around in small bites
until the flange of the bezel is standing up & will slip off the can. A
needle nosed pliers and a cotter pin remover (buger hooker) can be
helpful too.

Hope this helps,
