My original metal generator covers developed cracks at the mounting
holes after a few thousand miles as did the later style plastic one. It
could have been the extra vibration from the (then) tired engine (90 psi
on one cyl., 120 on the other) was causing this, but I have several pair
from other bikes and they're almost all cracked. I plan to reinstall
them this winter with rubber grommets and spacers in the mounting holes
as described in Guzziology. Don't know if this may be a problem with the
Harpers covers too.

Hi Ray,

I don't have any experience with the Harpers covers, but I do have pair
of the early original two-piece metal side covers. I really like these
because - in contrast to the later plastic one piece cover - they are
easier to install/uninstall when I need to get in somewhere close.
Fiberglass replicas are available.
