Excellent Greg! Between you and Bob, I'm sure it will be a first rate
product. I'm looking forward to the finished product. I noted that you
have modified the timing chest cover on yours...will that be necessary
on the version you are fabricating?

On a side note, there was a new Ural motorcycle on the classic bike run
yesterday here in Florida. It had a car-like alternator sitting right
on
top of the engine...pretty small in diameter, too. I have no idea how
much power it put out or who manufactured it, but it was neat to see.

It's an ND alt. from a Toyota forklift.

The mount is currently a one-off, made by Bob Nolan. Bob and I will
begin making a pattern and fabbing up brackets later this week. We
need
to modify it for a more-readily-available car alternator.

It mounts to the two gen-mount bolts, plus a strap to the front
dist.-mount bolt. It wires in via one wire to the pos. battery
terminal. Puts out 40 amps at 14.5 V, for over 500w.

The only side effect is it's about 10 lb lighter than the gen, so the
Eldo wheelies easier.

More later,

DO you have any detials on how you you made the conversion?
What alternator did you use?
Where are the mounting points?
Any adverse side effects? Vibration, noise? etc.
