Tried the key from the latch from McMaster-Carr in the original Wixom
latch this evening and it works fine! Sort of. It slips right in and
turns the lock no problem on one latch, but on the other it fits tight
and you have to use a little force to push it in. Once in it works fine
though. Same on both sets of Wixoms I have. Seems to be a slight
variance in tolerances on the latches from the factory. The material of
the key is pretty thin, but you could probably use a Dremel to make the
groove a bit deeper which might help.

On the key it says: "Atco" "Newark, NJ" - I assume this is who makes the
latches from McMaster-Carr. Anywho the item no. is 1863A23, it's on page
2788, illustration "N", $6.13 ea. I'll post a pic tonight on my 'site as
I need to do some updates anyway. Cheers,

Charlie,

Please do check the 72 and let me know the part # of that latch/key assy
you bought so I can buy one should it work on the 72 also.

The keys to the latches I bought from McMaster-Carr work in the Wixoms
on the '69. Haven't tried them on the set for the '72, though I can try
it and report back if needed. One latch is about $6, less than the cost
of having a key made. Cheers,

Took my bag to the locksmith, they searched but couldn't find a key.
Was wondering if anybody ever found a key or a source for a key for
these old Wixom locks. I have read posts about replacing the whole
lock, but would rather find a key as step #1.
