Heh heh,
well I can't get the computer to cooperate, so no link for you, MG cycle
is a great place with good good guzzi folk.

Mark out on the west coast is a great place to pick brains and get
parts. Just keep those two on speed dail.

As for stuff to replace, there is always the "while I'm here" qoute.
Which ends up pretty expensive..

Check your con-rods, quick test is no up/down movement, oil should be
out too. You have plain bearing in there, they should be free of oil,any
movement up/down at all replace. Not side to side but up/down.
Make sure the piston pin bushing is in good shape, I have a local
machine shop install and size the bushing to the mating pin. Turns out
absolutly beautiful.
Check your clyinders. The lining like to peel if left sitting for a long
time, if peeling, call MG.

Depending on how far you want to tear it down, the crank sludge trap
should be cleaned, not sure if your going that far though.

Whoever you get to do your heads will check your springs, valves, ect.
As for who to ship them to, call Mark(Moto Guzzi Classics) or MG. They
might take on the work.
Other than that a good machine shop in your area that has M/C
expiriance.
Check your tappets, bottoms are probablly pitted, I say run them as long
as it's not something you can fall into and the cam is decent. That
there is some big bucks...

Sorry this seems a bit scattered but just like any engine, inspect,
measure and replace as neccesary. Of course the one thing for sure will
be gaskets.

Kev

Hello. I am a new 73' Eldorado basket case owner in the Chicago area
and

am looking for some advice on where to get a valve job and other
machine

work (hopefully i will not need much). Seems to be quite a bit of
carbon

deposits on the valves so i was thinking this should maybe be my first

move. My bike is now all apart and i am in the process of figuring out

what needs to be replaced and what i can leave alone. Are there any
"Must replace" items now that i have all the pieces on the floor? The
bike is a police model and has 43K on the clock.

Thanks for the help!
