Hi Scott,
If they're in good shape otherwise (not damaged or leaking), but have
little dampening, they can be easily refilled by drilling a hole,
draining the "fish oil" (that's what it smelled like) and refilling with
fork oil. Sounds like yours may not be a good candidates for a refill.

This is from memory since rhe last ones I did were in '89 or so. On the
Tontis, I drilled a hole at the top where they attach to the top fork
plug. There's an 8mm-1.25 threaded hole already there - inside that I
drilled a smaller one, probably 1/8" or so. Pointed the now open end
into the drain pan and moved the dampener rod through it's travel to
expel all the evil fish oil. Extended the rod completely while filling
it, then put the 8mm bolt in place and moved it (slowly) through it's
travel. If it didn't move through full travel, some was drained out
until it did. Think I used 10W Bel-Ray. The hole I drilled was
adequately sealed by the 8mm top bolt with a little sealer on it and a
copper washer. Think it was Ralph Snavely or Mac Seavey at Snavely
Service (long defunct Guzzi dealer in Alexandria, VA then Gaithersburg,
MD) that passed this on to me. Worked very well for me, y'all's results
may vary. Cheers,

I dont know Charlie. My old one that I checked has a bent rod in a
couple places too. I dont see how one can refill them either, it loos
like a sealed unit.
