Thanks Don & Greg for your input. Last night I spent some time looking
how to mount the HD Police Solo. After messing with it a while, I
decided I like the look of what I already have; a modified Tonti Police
Solo. The problem was when I modded the Guzzi seat with new brackets I
oriented it with the forward end too low, so I was always sliding
forward. Since I didn't have access to a welder last night & I wanted to
get it fixed, I decided to reshape the foam instead. I put a 4 1/2" 50
grit disc on my angle grinder & went to town. On my ride into work this
morning all seems fine...in fact, real good!

So now the HD Police solo is surplus...anyone interested? It's the same
one Don has on his bike. I'll sell it for $40 plus shipping. I don't
have the front seat-to-frame mounting bracket but it has the T bar.
Almost new shape, top and pan are perfect - it couldn't have been used
much. Contact me off list jumpjg (at) hotmail (dot) com.

Joe,

When mounting the seat, I wanted to retain the front mount, which is
actually a hinge. I just thought it looked cool. So I modified the two
side
plates of the front mount / hinge by cutting them down a bit and
drilling a
new hole to match the one in the frame. I cut off an inch or two from
the
hinge, which is just a piece of tubing with the plate on each side. I
used
an 8mm bolt through the frame and the front was done. For the back
mount, I
cut off the original "T" and bolted another one on just in front of it,
so
it came out just above the original seat mount holes on each side. Then
I
used a couple of rubber mounts with 8mm studs sticking out each end and
bolted it down. It was really quite easy once I figured out what I
wanted to
do. I weigh 195# and have a 32" inseam. The seat fits me real well and
is
quite comfortable.

Let me know if you have any other questions or need detailed pictures.

Good luck,

Don

Don,
Remind me to put on my sunglasses if I ever get the chance to
see your bike in the flesh - Man, Is that Shiney!!

I just picked up one of thoose Basket-Weave Harley Police Solos
too (Thanks Ebay!), and was just this morning looking at how to fab up
brackets to mount it. I noticed you kept the original T-bracket, which
required mounting the seat a bit farther aft than I was thinking. I was
planning on removing the T-bracket & making up mounts to interface with
the original Guzzi mounting points. One of the reasons I wanted to do
this is to leave as much room as possible for access to the saddlebags;
the aft end of the Police Solo gets pretty wide, overlapping the tops of
the bags. Was there some reason you discovered that may cause problems
for me to do it that way, or did you try that & find it uncomfortable?
I'm just over 6ft, 32" inseam, and about 215#.

I would appreciate your input too, Greg.

Thanks for your time,

I found a new take-off seat from a late model Harley police bike at a
swap
meet for $60. After a little modification to the mounting bracket it fit
right on. Very comfortable and in my opinion, doesn't look too bad
either.
