Spoke with John Swartz (BJ) on Tuesday about my tranny and he said there
should be a 3 washer pack under my main shaft. 2 shims and a bronze washer.
Tranny would work and shift fine while riding, but there would be a noise
when the bike was idling on the center stand and would go away as soon as
you pull in the clutch. This is exactly what I found with mine. He said no
harm would come to it, but advised I should put the washer pack in. Well
next thing I know he starts asking me for my address so he can send me what
I need! Now isn't he the nicest guy. Now for those interested in
transplanting a T bike 5 speed into your Ambo or Eldo, just remember that
there are some subtle differences not only in the rear cover, but also in
the internals. The T series use a thrust bearing pack where the Eldo uses
the 2 shim 1 bronze washer pack. That and there are a few more washers and
o-rings inside a T tranny that our Eldo tranny doesn't have. Check the parts
books on Greg Benders site for details between the 2 transmissions.

Ok folks, here's a nice one. Pulled my tranny today to give it some
nice
new
seals and o-rings etc and after disassembly found there wasn't a thrust
bearing/washer pack on the end of my main shaft or even a bronze washer!
Interesting part is the tranny shifts perfectly fine with no grinding or
whining throughout all gears. Should I leave it like it is or get a new
thrust bearing/washer pack along with some shims? I did notice it also
had
the original style shift return spring, so while I'm in there it WILL be
changed out for the updated one.
