Bob,

DO NOT USE A PIPE WRENCH!!! MG Cycle sells the special tool needed to remove
them. It's worth it to buy it. As for the races, there is a stop in the
steering tube for them. Just use a flat punch and tap them out. Then you can
grind the edge of one of the old ones and use it to assist in driving the
new one back in. I would only replace the races if they show signs of
pitting or scoring, otherwise leave them in place and just replace the
roller bearings. For the lower bearing on the shaft you will need a puller
that can get underneath it. You should be able to get one cheap at Harbor
Freight or someplace like that.

Head bearings need to be replaced. What is easiest way to remove the lower
bearing? Do I need to replace the races in the stem housing? How is best way
to remove the races, is there a stop to ensure proper seating of new race?

Now that everything is apart, how do I remove the chrome spring housing from
the lower part of shock/damper? Big pipe wrench or is there a trick or tool
needed?

Any helpful hints for a first timer with rebuilding shocks/dampers?

BOB
