Thanks to Charlie Mullendore of Antietam Classic Cycle for making me aware of this information. Thanks to
Brian UK, and
el__burro for posting their information on the guzziriders.org forum.
Mike H recommends using a 220 nF (0.22 μF) 1000 volt DC capacitor and choosing one made from ceramic polyester or polypropylene (dielectric).
Brian UK recommends using a 0.2 μF (200 nF) at minimum 400 volts DC working.
Here are a couple of capacitors with the aforementioned characteristics:
- WIMA MKP4O132205I00KSSD (Film Capacitors 0.22 μF 1000 VDC 0.1)
- Panasonic ECW-F4204RHL (Film Capacitors 400VDC 0.20 μF 3% MPP L/S=7.5mm)
Of course you will need to solder on short wire leads to both terminals. One lead will go to ground and the other lead will go to the post on the side of the distributor. It would be wise to secure the capacitor such that the entire weight does not hang loose and vibrate.
