Civilian Magneti Marelli mechanical voltage regulator
- The gray/red (or red/white) wire with the 6 mm ring terminal is secured to the bottom left lug.
- The white wire with the 6 mm ring terminal is secured to the bottom center lug.
- The red wire with the 6 mm ring terminal is secured to the bottom right lug.

Civilian Bosch mechanical voltage regulator
- The gray/red (or red/white) wire is connected to the bottom right connection (bottom as in closest to the ground, right as when seated properly astride the motorcycle). Some Bosch mechanical voltage regulators use a 9.5 mm female spade terminal; others use a 5 mm ring terminal.
- The white wire with the 6.3 mm female spade terminal is plugged onto the top right connection (top as in furthest from the ground, right as when seated properly astride the motorcycle).
- The red wire with the 9.5 mm female spade terminal is plugged onto the top left lug (top as in furthest from the ground, left as when seated properly astride the motorcycle).
