The "acid trip" is a nasty process. Wear long "cow rectum" rubber gloves and
some type of eye protection. Do it OUTSIDE as the fumes will burn you brain
faster than a quart of Wild Turkey (and not nearly as fun). Throw some nuts and
bolts in the tank and shake it to bust the crud loose. It is particularly
important that you wear the gloves, goggles and clothes that you don't care
about at this point. Chances are that you will spring a leak and get some of
this acid on you. No big worries as long as you rinse the area with plenty of
water.

If you plan to repaint the outside, take the tank to a commercial paint stripper
and let them dunk it for a week. They will remove all paint, Bondo, rust and
old Kreem. I've done at least half a dozen tanks this way and it was well worth
the $40 they charged me.

Have fun,

Dave

 Mike-
I bought the Eastwood kit...it sez use Muriatic acid full strength(it's 20%
hydrochloric acid/80%water so no further dillution is needed) run a couple
of gallons through (use rubber stoppers to plug the petcock holes and let
each gallon sit for a few minutes on each side of the tank)...then rinse
WELL with water....then use about a gallon of acetone to clean out the tank
of water and acid residue.
I would highly recommend using Eastwod's tank sealer or Kreem after all
this, coz the rust just comes back. BTW, if it has been sealed already, the
acetone dissolves the sealer. Use 2-3 gallons to do this. Handy to know if
someone else sealed it wrong and you need to get it out.
