Just to remember if you use a Bosch generator you need a Bosch voltage
regulator. Same goes with the Marelli units.
Regards....Ian
p.s. Chris, you listed two Bosch generators. Are they comparable units?
What's the difference between the two?

Check the voltage regulator...I had an always dead battery until I replaced
the regulator. Generator checked fine, starter was new. Replacing the
voltage regulator should solve your problem.
As for batteries, I have used a wal-Mart Garden tractor battery for 2 years
now with absolutely no problem. My battery charger has a lot of dust on it
now. Why pay $50-100 for a special motorcycle battery, when a $19.95
battery (that is suspiciously the exact same size as the original one)
fine?
Another tip...Bosch generator on a Guzzi puts out 20-25 amps I think. A
Bosch generator for a VW Type III (squareback, fastback, or notchback VW
part # 311 903 631F, Bosch # 0 101 302 089) genetates 30-40 amps. If you
have a lot of energy consuming devices on your loop, I'd recommend finding
one of these jewels...they have the same case (looks original) and bolt
right on!
Chow!
