What do your pistons look like? =20
Why I ask is - Last spring I had the rings in my right piston sieze in =
my '73=20
Eldo and had that barrel and piston replaced by a local dealer with a =
nikasil=20
barrel & matching piston. They also pulled the left side, said =
everything=20
looked ok and replaced the rings on that side. I check the =
compression after=20
getting the bike home and found a difference of 28# with the new right =
side=20
reading 176 and the left with new rings reading 148. So I had an old =
chrome=20
bore on the left and a new nikasil on the right. I put about 800-900 =
miles=20
on it this way and felt that I couldn't get it to run well because of =
the=20
difference in compression and also a lingering feeling that the left =
side=20
might do the same as the right side did. So I ended up pulling the =
left side=20
off to take a look at it - the barrel looked great too as far as I =
could=20
tell, but the piston showed signs of scrapping in the area above the =
top ring=20
and some very light scrapes on the skirts - so frustrated at all of =
this,=20
I've ordered and received two new nikasil barrels and pistons from MG =
Cycle. =20
I figured that whatever the dealer put on the right side was probably =
not=20
going to last and I wanted to begin all new again. I wish I would =
have done=20
this in the first place rather than taking it to this dealer for them =
to work=20
on (by the way the had the bike for 4 months!) - frustrating.=20
I will put my new pistons and barrels on in late March when the =
weather=20
should be getting better here and then I can take it out for a ride =
right=20
away and then go through the retourquing routine.=20
