Ian,
You are right except you left out yourself. Any of the three of you would
make this situation much better, much sooner.
Took the points off last night, for the first time; I should have done so
earlier. The faces of the points were not shiny so I filed them flat. Will
continue this tonight. See you soon, Bob

Bob,

Your problem is that you don't live near Dave or Mark :-)

Keep plugging Bob...you aren't far away from getting one of the sweetest
running Ambos in the east!

Looking forward to seeing you (and you bike) on Friday.

Ian

p.s. By the way.....my 70 project last year started the same way. Factory
set the bike up.....turned the key and the bike fired after a couple of
revolutions.

 David,
What is the product number for the battery your bought at WalMart?
I don't know, just a garden tractor battery.

Also, please tell me why you have such good luck on bikes?
No luck I have the worst luck in the world, just meticulous preparation.
Points set to spec, timing set statically by the book, left carb 1 1/2
turns, right 1 3/4 turns, Idle speed screws 1 1/2, adjust the throttle
linkage to have a tad bit of play in the cable the same on both sides,
start
 and go.
