 parts in the carbs are either cracked or hard as a rock.

Yes and no. There is a gasket, o-ring, and (I think) cable nipple kit
available, but the kits don't include the choke plungers or the float
needles, which should also be replaced if you've got bad rubber parts in
there.

Make sure the choke plunger bores are clean and round, and the the
enrichener jet upper surface is free from corrosion. Otherwise, your
choke plungers will get hung up and the bike will run rich no matter
what else you do.
