Free play is fine...I leave them deliberately loose.

Huh? Takes a 10mm hand wrench. Loosen the arced lugbasethe rear facing portion of the distributor, not thewhere it bolts to the engine case.

again I never worried on ANY bike ,even the BRIT bikes
