adjustment is done warm, but don't let motor get too hot with no
airflow
over pots.
can be done with no guages: disconnect 1 HT* lead & start
engine.screw in
throttle stop till it idles slowly. play with mixture screw till it
is at
sweetest point. reconnect HT lead.
repeat with other side. connect both HT leads & motor will idle too
fast.
screw out both throttle screws 1/4 turn at a time till idle is
850/100 rpm.
next stage is more hit & miss. equalise free play in throttle cables
by eye
(0.5>1.0mm). remove air cleaner(s) open twist grip & make sure both
slides
commence rise together. impossible to see both at once so you can
use a
mirror or if you have huge hands you can stick a finger into back of
each
carb & do it by feel.
both adjustments are far easier with guages though, and more
accurate. i use
type that has stainless rods floating in clear tubes.

*don't do this on later bikes with electronic ignition. HT leads
must be
grounded at all times on these bikes.

Subject: Setting CarbsShould this be done when the bike is warm or cold? As far assynchingthe carbs, I do not have the screws in the manifold to tap into todothis, should I even bother drilling the holes in them to use mycarbstix? What steps should be followed, I gather 1st turn the idlescrewsall the way in (clockwise), then back them off 1 1/4 turns, thenset themixture on each side (my right side seems to be dead on per thesparkplug condition, left side appears too rich (blackish)). Aftermixtureis set, go back and adjust idle speed on each side making sure todothem evenly?
