that's true, Chris.
BUT- if you take the stock eldo/ambo mufflers off, drive a piece of pipe
[approx. same size as the inner dia.] thru them [it knocks away the diverter
plate], and reinstall, you will notice a slight difference. more throaty. a
niiice rumble. not loud or rowdy, just sweet! [much quieter than my mac's,
which are new and stock] imho, this is one of the nicest sounding systems
going, and it's a free fix!
just don't do it on the bike- you will most likely break loose the cheezy
spot welds that hold the brackets to the muffs. [ask me how i know].

I agree...loud pipes are just annoying. Good moderately
quietened ones are awesome sounding though! Every time I
see that slogan "loud pipes save lives" I just want to
smack the shit out of the person wearing or saying it.
The only time you can hear the loud pipes is when you are
behind the offending bike. You can hear them from the
sides and in front only a split second before they get to
you....far too late to "save a life". At least "loud
valves save lives" is humorous.
Sorry if I've offended...just my opinion.
