For the sake of having a meter that would take care of 99% of what I need and
takes up little space, look at the Penprobe style meters. That's what I wish
I had, but I'll have to wait til I break the one I have. I've seen similar
models from Fluke, Wavetech ( Wavetech model DM-73B) and others for about
$50. These things really aren't much bigger than a big PEN on only weigh
about 5 oz. Nice part is you don't have to set the meter on anything when
measuring because they hold the reading if you cant see it right away.

The other kind that looks interesting are the "Credit card" size units in a
small case about the size of a small wallet. Autoranging... These are about
$35.

Probably the best place to find these would be through an electronics tool
supply house like Techni-tool. Lots of choices on what you can get
