I'm in the process of wet sanding the primer on one of my Ambos. The partsfour
being painted are a set of Bates ribbed top bags w/matching tour trunk,
battery covers, four tool boxes, a set of fenders and a gas tank. LOTS offriend
prep work so far, and happy to be at the wet sanding/primer point!! A
of mine owns a collision repair body shop, and is assisting me with thingsprep
such as spraying the parts in his booth, but I'm doing the body work &
(the tedious, time consuming part). He showed me a product that you duston
the parts prior to wet sanding. It is a charcoal powder, and it bonds tothe
surface with an application sponge. As you wet sand (I use 500 grit), it
shows all the scratches until you've cut through them. Once the powder
residue is gone, the surface is smooth and ready for paint. No guessing,
feeling the surface with your hand is necessary. This stuff is great. I'll
never prep primer again without using it!!
