Thanks Bill and all,
Good advice. I suspect there are lots of different theories and techniques.
I personally have attached the gasket to one side with sealant and then
bolted the part down to a slightly lubricated side. I was told that this
would prevent the gasket from moving. Fact or fiction...who knows but I have
done this on my last two Ambos and the bikes are dry to this date.
I am always interested in what techniques people use in their projects.
Thanks all for the input....Ian

Ian.. I just did oil pan and timing cover.. and based on what I
percieved to be the majority opinion when I asked the question... a
little grease on the gasket... no leaks yet.. but I've only done about a
hundred miles since...

Some say not to use it at all. Others say to use it to secureone part and not on the other.parts like
I know that you do not use sealant on the heads but what aboutthe rear bearing? By the way I know that the lower two boltholes need to besealed on the rear bearing. What about oil pan and timing cover?
Just curious what the consensus is.
