Those driving times would tend to be in a car, not a bike. It normally takes
1 hr 15 min. from the downtown Sx City exit to my drive running at 75 mph
(90 miles). I live 3.6 miles north of the I90/I29 interchange. I have
made it in 1 hr many times. 90 mph, always looking over your shoulder. Sx
Falls to Rapid actually takes about 5 to 5 1/2 hrs with 1 gas /pit stop on
I-90. Mileage from home to downtown Rapid is 340 miles on I90. I still
think hiway 44 and hiway 34 are the best east/west/east roads we have
available for bikes.
SD interstate speeds are 75 mph, except around metro areas, most state
roads are 65 mph, county and township roads are 55mph. Generally you could
run at 8 to 10 over on all roads with no need to worry. In some areas you
can see for 3 to 4 miles it is so flat, then you can wick it up a bit. DO
NOT speed through the small towns as the local 1 man Barney Fife police
depts. need to justify their jobs and help pay for their wages.
Two yrs ago a buddy of mine made a 850 mile run from SF to Madison, Hiway
34 to Sturgis, then I90 back to SF in 9 hrs 35 min including gas stops. Top
speed recorded on GPS was around about 127 mph, average speed while moving
was 92 if I recall. Will try to get a copy of the GPS readout to verify
later. This was a hard butt Poker run with ! stop in Sturgis. Speed of
your own free will. No, I wasn't on a loop, I was on my old BMW K bike.
As stated before I have 2 acres, with quite a lot shade, 2 showers for those
that want to smell pretty, and lots of beer.Come early and spend a day or
two. There is always things to do.

Hey, Randy. thanks for the help. I might end up in your property in theway
there. I figure I will drive from lexington , ky to Peoria, Illinois the428
first day, (400 miles) , from Peoria to Sioux city(or your place ) the
second day(460 miles) and from Sioux City to Rapid city the third day (
miles +-) .SD
It would be Great to ride together with a bunch of Loops to the rally.
In the Freetrip .com website it reads Lexington-Peoria 397 miles = 6:30
hours Peoria-Sioux City 460 miles =7:15 hours and Sioux City -Rapid
City 428 miles=5:45 hours, I guess is very easy to drive in your state of
judging by the times.start
It is going to be an exiting National this Year. Hopefully I might join
Charlie in the way there someplace and ride together.
Roberto.

I just took a look at the Iowa and Nebraska route. Iowa looks pretty
interesting but instead of using Neb. roads, I would lide to suggestnorthwest from Denison Iowa towards Sioux City Iowa then north to Sioux
Falls SD.
About 15miles SE of Sx Falls at the town of Lennox you can catch the
44of state Hiway 44. This road is one of the better maintained roadsinthe state. It will take you across the mile long bridge crossing theuphe
Missouri river, thru indian reservations, part of the Bad Lands, and endat Rapid City. You can get off at Rapid or continue on 44 a few moremilesto the end at hiway 385 north of Hill City. Then you can say "I rode
treatsfrom one end to the other"
At Rapid you have a few different routes to the rally. I
I will be in the Hills ain a couple weeks and will try to get some
junctionfor some of you.
I live in the Sx Falls area, only 3.6 miles north of the I90-I29
.I'dHave a couple acres to camp on if anyone cares to.This might also be apointto get together and form a pre rally rally or something. 2 kegeratorsarealso on hand for those who like to indulge.

Subject: RE: stuff to do/SD trip routeHi Roberto,
"The Lincoln Highway was America's first trans-continental highway"
according to this website:
http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/~jlin/lincoln/by_state/
It mostly follows US30 across the Mid-West. There was a story in
American Motorcyclist about a trip west on it a few years ago also.
offlike to stay off of the major highways and stick to the "old roads" in
an attempt to see more of the "real America", not just what's right
it....thatof the next exit. Time isn't much of a factor for me as I'll have six
days to get there. Cheers,
Charlie
