Hi Jeff,

The side cover uses 6.0 mm x 1.0 mm bolt threads. As an alternative to
using long regular bolts or trying to find originals, you may want to
purchase a nicely machined set from Joe Kenny
(http://www.swva.net/jkenny/).

I *think* the shock studs are 12 mm x 1.5 mm where the screw into the
frame and 10 mm x 1.25 mm for the nuts that hold the shock onto the stud
(someone please correct me if I am wrong). My only concern with using
threaded rod is that the threads will dig into the rubber shock
bushings...drastically reducing the life of the rubber bushings.
Perhaps, though, you could use a steel collar to prevent this problem.
Also, as you mention, you'll want the rod to be some heavier grade of
hardened steel. Personally, I would try really hard to get the original
studs, as I would not want to experience the damage caused by shearing
shock studs. For other possible sources for the original studs, start by
trying Mark Etheridge athttp://www.motoguzziclassics.comor the Moto
Guzzi Junk Yard in Wichita, KS (316-838-3399). Good luck!
