You guys are right. I was just seeing the slot in the end of the oil pump
axle that allows you to turn the pump to line up the key.

Man, whichever of you guys said taking out the timing chain and replacing it
was easy is a nut. At least when talking about that spring tensioned one
from mgcycle. I finally figured out a way to clamp it to the side of the
case so it wasn't continually pressing on the chain, but that SUCKED. Took
me about 3.5 hours to get everything lined up and all.

Anyway, I fixed that problem, but my original problem of bike not starting
still exists. <sigh> Back into trouble shooting mode.

thanks for all the help

I don't think there is a screw in the oil pump gear. However, there is a
slot in the tip of the drive shaft. There is a key on the shaft to drive
the gear. Often, when you install the gear it is not aligned with the key
and keyway. Just stick a screwdriver in the slot, rotate the drive shaft
until the oil pump gear slides home.
