Hi Greg,
I searched '79 Jeep CJ7 w/6cyl. on the AC Delco website last night and
one of the battery choices was the 55-6yr. Went up to the AC Delco
dealer today and scoped other sizes - the Grp. 51 actually fit the
battery frame better but is just too tall. Bought the 55-6yr. for $53.26
(with my business discount) and trimmed the top as you outlined this
evening. With have to grind a semi-circle from the o.e. top frame to
make sure there is adequate clearance with the posts (thanks to Mark E.
for the heads-up on that), but otherwise it's the bees knees. Don't
think I'll have to worry ever again about having enough cranking power!
